Larson Nutcrackers

The Story

Founded in 1893, the Royal Bahamas Police Force Band is a symbol of national pride for all Bahamians. The band performs throughout the island nation and around the world, to the great delight of its audiences. While watching the band perform, the idea was hatched that band members would make great nutcrackers. Larson Inc. searched the globe for the right partner, looking for old-world craftsmanship of the highest order. The journey led to Steinbach GMBH in Germany.

Decorative nutcrackers of soldiers, kings, watchmen, and others have existed since at least the 15th Century, emerging from the rural region of the Ore Mountains in Germany. Steinbach nutcrackers are the most famous in the world. Many of them have become treasured collector's items, sought by people the world over.

According to folklore, nutcrackers are fierce protectors who bare their teeth to ward off evil spirits, serving as steadfast guardians of family and home. They share a similarity with the mythical Bahamian Chickcharney, which, if spotted, brings good luck and fortune to the observer.

The release of the 2013 “Drummer”, the introductory member of the Bahamas Police Force Band Nutcracker Series, coincides with and celebrates the 120th Anniversary of the Band.
